National Atlas database for Geocart

National Atlas Digital databases allow you to create an entire map quickly and easily. Save time and money by using Geocart to plot all of the data automatically, in the right place. When used together, the National Atlas Digital Databases contain all of the information needed to create detailed maps of the US, including roads, rivers, boundaries, cities, counties and type. There are 5 distinct 1:2,000,000 scale U.S. databases:

Federal Land Boundaries

US 1:2 MILLION NATIONAL ATLAS FEDERAL LAND BOUNDARIES FOR GEOCART


The Federal Land Boundaries data set contains political and administrative boundaries of Federal Lands. The data were derived by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) from the USGS National Atlas of the United States. The National Atlas was originally compiled in 1970 and was thoroughly revised in 1993-94.

Most Federal Lands with a minimum area of 640 acres (1 square mile) are shown. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands with a minimum area of 320 acres are shown. The Federal Lands data set contains all 48 Continental States and Hawaii.

To use the Federal Land Boundaries data set, simply open Geocart and pick the scale and area of coverage as described in the Geocart manual. When the proper area has been selected, go to the Database dialog box (command D) and select the data sets you want to plot. Many of the data sets included with the Federal Land Boundaries are quite large. To speed redraw and export times, the data bases can be cropped using the CropDataBase program.

The size and color of the lines of the Federal Land Boundaries can be controlled using the Lines dialog box (command L). The following Appendix shows the relationship between file names and the line type as described in the Lines dialog box.
